If You Could Design Your Dream MultiValue Database…

I've been thinking about this lately, and I'd really like to hear what the MultiValue community has to say.

Imagine you had the opportunity to design the ultimate MultiValue database from the ground up. No restrictions based on what UniVerse, UniData, D3, jBASE, OpenQM, or any other MV platform currently supports.

What are the TOP 3 features you would want?

I'm talking about anything you can imagine:

  • File Systems: Better performance, improved hashing, automatic file recovery, new file structures, or something nobody has thought of yet.

  • BASIC Language: New functions, statements, compiler enhancements, better debugging, or modern programming capabilities.

  • Database Administration: Better monitoring, diagnostics, automation, security, or recovery tools.

  • Connectivity: Improved SQL integration, REST APIs, web services, or interoperability with other technologies.

  • TCL Commands and Utilities: New commands, improved existing tools, or features that would make your daily work easier.

  • Something Completely Different: AI integration, new development tools, or an idea you've wished someone would implement for years.

And don't limit yourself to what you think is technically possible today. Sometimes the best innovations start with someone asking, "Why can't we do that?"

Here's the challenge:

Tell me your three most-wanted features, ranked in order of importance.

1. Your number one must-have feature.

2. Your second most-wanted feature.

3. Your third most-wanted feature.

If possible, tell us why you want each one. What problem would it solve? How would it make your work easier or your applications better?

I'm particularly interested in those features you've wanted for years but have never seen implemented.

If you could build the perfect MultiValue database, what would you put in it?

  1. A built in full screen admin suite within the terminal

  2. AI integration

  3. Better security
