The MultiValue community remembers Gregory Michael Amov as an accomplished consultant, educator, software developer, and musician whose passion for learning enriched both the technical and creative worlds. Throughout his career, Greg combined exceptional technical ability with a generous willingness to share his knowledge, earning the respect of colleagues, students, and customers alike.

Born on November 6, 1959, Greg grew up in Southern California, where his interests in both music and technology began to flourish. After studying music composition and theory, he entered the computer industry in 1984, working with Microdata, Pick, Mentor, and Prime systems during a period when MultiValue technology was rapidly expanding into new industries. His natural ability to understand complex systems quickly established him as a trusted consultant and application developer.

Over the following decades, Greg developed and supported business applications serving healthcare, prescription drug tracking, manufacturing, distribution, retail sales, film processing, and point-of-sale systems. As new technologies emerged, he expanded his expertise to Windows NT, UNIX, and Linux while remaining committed to the MultiValue platforms that had become the foundation of his career. His work demonstrated how MultiValue databases could evolve alongside changing technology while continuing to solve demanding business problems.

Greg also became a respected instructor with JES & Associates, where he taught database fundamentals, system administration, and programming. His classes helped countless professionals develop the skills needed to build and maintain MultiValue applications. Those who learned from Greg remember not only his technical knowledge, but also his patience, encouragement, and ability to explain difficult concepts with clarity.

Outside the technology industry, Greg pursued another lifelong passion: music. A gifted composer and electronic musician, he became a founding member of the internationally recognized electronic music group Systems Theory while also producing several acclaimed solo albums. His creativity, whether expressed through software or music, reflected the same thoughtful attention to detail and desire to create something meaningful.

Following battles with esophageal cancer and later brain cancer, Greg continued working on both software and music projects for as long as his health allowed. His determination, optimism, and commitment to helping others never diminished, even during the most difficult periods of his life. He passed away on November 3, 2009, leaving behind his wife Diane, his family, friends, colleagues, students, and a community that benefited greatly from his generosity and expertise.

Gregory Michael Amov's legacy lives on through the applications he developed, the professionals he trained, the customers he served, and the music he created.
